Nigerian singer Davido has announced that he is stepping away from the custody battle over his first child and daughter, Imade.
Davido and Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu, were in court on February 13 for a hearing regarding the lawsuit he filed seeking joint custody of their daughter.
According to reports, proceedings were progressing smoothly until Sophia’s lawyer questioned how Davido could guarantee Imade’s safety when he was unable to protect his late son, Ifeanyi, who died in October 2022.
The remark reportedly angered the singer, who was said to have reacted strongly inside the courtroom. The hearing was temporarily halted, and upon reconvening, the judge asked Davido to apologise to both the court and the lawyer. However, the singer reportedly declined, maintaining that he could not apologise for the mention of his deceased son in that context.
Later in the evening, the singer took to his X handle to address the situation publicly. He stated that no one emerged victorious from the dispute and that the only person who truly suffered was Imade. He added that he has now withdrawn the case and expressed hope that his daughter would grow up knowing he fought for her.
