BBNaija star Tacha has called for the prosecution of a woman identified as Mirabel after she admitted that her viral rape allegation was false.
Mirabel had earlier claimed in a viral video that she was raped inside her home by an unknown man. However, on Thursday, February 19, she reportedly confessed during a conversation with social critic VeryDarkMan that she fabricated the story. She attributed her actions to serious mental health struggles.
The development sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians calling for legal action. In a post shared on X, Tacha insisted that Mirabel should face the full weight of the law. She argued that the punishment should be equivalent to what a rapist would receive if found guilty.
“Now that it’s been established that Mirabel lied about the rape allegation, I expect the police and the agencies in charge of handling rape and assault cases to make sure they penalize Mirabel and that she receives the same punishment a rapist would get,” Tacha wrote.
She further stated that false accusations could embolden offenders and undermine genuine cases.
In a follow-up video, Tacha stressed that rape is a serious issue and warned against weaponising such allegations. She argued that false claims risk discrediting real victims and empowering those who dismiss or trivialise sexual assault allegations.
“Rape is a very serious issue. Women should never weaponize rape for whatever reason… at the end of the day, you are taking away from the real victims,” she said.
The incident has reignited conversations about accountability, mental health, and the impact of false allegations on survivors of sexual violence.
