Former Big Brother Naija housemate Maria Chike has addressed long-standing allegations surrounding her private relationship, maintaining that she did not knowingly date a married man.
Speaking in a conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Maria directly responded to claims that she contributed to the breakdown of a marriage.
“I wasn’t aware that he was married when we started dating,” she said.
“I Didn’t Destroy Any Marriage”
Maria firmly rejected the accusation that she broke up anyone’s home.
“I am going to stand by this, and this is the gospel truth, I didn’t destroy any marriage,” she stated. “I have never and would never do that. I am also a woman and I know how it feels when a man is having an affair.”
She added that she does not feel obligated to publicly disclose every detail of her personal life.
“I don’t owe people my personal life. I am not a saint and I’m nobody’s role model because I’m for me. Whoever loves me can then decide to follow my steps,” she said.
How the Controversy Began
The issue first gained public attention in 2021 when nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest accused Maria of being involved with his sister’s husband, identified in reports as Kelvin Anene.
At the time, Cubana Chief Priest alleged that Maria had an affair with the married man and claimed she sent threatening messages to his sister. He wrote publicly that he would not allow the matter to “slide,” escalating the dispute online.
Subsequent reports indicated that the estranged wife, Maryanne Obi, filed for divorce after the controversy became public.
Kelvin’s brother, known as Energy Bank, later stated that Kelvin had left his marriage in 2018 before meeting Maria and that marital issues predated their relationship.
Where Things Stand Now
Maria is now publicly recognized as being married to Kelvin Anene, and the couple reportedly share two children — welcoming their first in 2023 and a second in 2024.
Her recent comments appear to draw a line under years of speculation, as she reiterates her position that she was not aware of any existing marriage at the beginning of the relationship and did not intentionally harm another woman’s union.
