Nigerian Afrobeats star Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has shared details about his pre-show routine.
In an interview with Dazed on the sidelines of Milan Fashion Week — where he walked the runway for Diesel — the singer revealed that he drinks alcohol, smokes cigarettes, and prays before going on stage.
When asked about his ritual before performances, Rema responded: “A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team and make sure everything is on cue.”
He explained that beyond his personal routine, he also conducts sound-checks with his team to ensure everything is properly set for a smooth performance.
The Calm Down hitmaker noted that performing on stage is more demanding than walking the runway, emphasising the physical and mental effort required. “Performing has a lot to do with your breathwork and you have to keep the crowd going,” he said.
On his current musical inspirations, Rema disclosed that he has been listening to Sudanese cultural live music.
The singer also admitted that smoking cigarettes remains his “biggest vice.”
