Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has declared that he will resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the 2027 general elections.
Okpebholo made the statement on Friday during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), where he highlighted ongoing development projects in the state and expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election prospects.
According to the governor, Edo residents will show their appreciation for the president’s efforts through their votes.
“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes,” he said.
He added that the various projects executed across the state would speak in Tinubu’s favour at the polls.
“The various projects across the state are the things that will speak for Tinubu and he will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor.
“There’s no election here for him. I’m a politician, who under-studied Chief Aneni. My style of politics is not thuggery but grassroots,” he stated.
The remarks have since sparked political reactions as preparations gradually build toward the 2027 general elections.
