Lola Young Opens Up About Addiction Struggles After Stage Collapse

Lola Young

British singer Lola Young has spoken candidly about her struggles with addiction and mental health following her collapse during a live performance last year.

The 25-year-old singer fainted on stage on 27 September 2025 while performing at the All Things Go Festival in New York City.

A week after the incident, Young shared a message on Instagram announcing that she would be stepping away from public engagements and cancelling upcoming commitments for the foreseeable future.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the Messy hitmaker reflected on what she described as a “whirlwind year,” explaining that the pressures of rising fame began to take a toll on her well-being.

“If I’m gonna be honest with you, the enjoyment was deteriorating,” she said about her rapid rise in the music industry.

“Just small things that I had to do: an interview, a piece of promo. I just didn’t know all the stuff that comes with it. But I wasn’t in a good place, and there’s two sides of the coin.”

Lola Young, who has previously been diagnosed with Schizoaffective Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD), said she has always tried to be open about her mental health struggles.

“You want to say yes to everything because everything’s on the table, but then you also have to balance that with your mental health,” she added.

Last year, her manager also revealed in an interview with The New York Times that the singer had relapsed and returned to treatment. Months later, she returned to the spotlight with the release of her third album, I’m Only F**king Myself.

However, during the album’s promotional tour, her mental health deteriorated again, leading to her on-stage collapse in September.

Following the incident, Lola Young received support from several artists, including Charli XCX, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Kesha.

As part of her recovery process, the singer checked into a holistic treatment facility focused on therapy and psychology. She also attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and works with a sponsor.

Reflecting on the incident, Lola Young said she has watched the video of her collapse, though it is not something she likes revisiting.

“But I am very grateful that it happened because it was a breaking point which allowed me to then be able to be here today — better for my fans, better for the future, and better for myself,” she said.
