American singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has opened up about life after her split from actor Ben Affleck, saying she finally feels “free.”
Lopez spoke about her personal journey in a preview of an upcoming interview on Nightline, a teaser of which aired on Good Morning America on Wednesday.
“I’m in my happy era,” Lopez said in the clip.
“I think, for the first time in my life, I feel like I’m free; I’m on my own. And it feels really good.”
The singer explained that she had rarely experienced life on her own because she had been in relationships since her early twenties.
“I didn’t really know what being on my own felt like,” she said, adding that she had almost always had a partner in her life.
Speaking with Nightline host Juju Chang, Jennifer Lopez also reflected on learning to stop putting excessive pressure on herself.
“I’ve gotten to the point where I really trust myself and appreciate myself a little bit more, instead of being so hard on myself and always trying to prove myself,” she said.
Jennifer Lopez revealed that after her divorce from Affleck in August 2024, she decided to take time off from work in order to focus on healing.
“I had to stop everything. I cancelled tours and just decided to be home and sit in what had happened without running away from it through work, through another person, through anything,” she said.
Her separation from Affleck marked Jennifer Lopez’s fourth divorce. She was previously married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, and singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014.
