Meghan Markle reportedly showed frustration toward her brother-in-law, Prince William, during a tense reconciliation meeting involving the royal brothers and their wives.
The conversation allegedly took place in William and Kate’s former apartment at Kensington Palace, according to royal author Tom Bower in his new book titled Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family.
According to Bower, the Duchess of Sussex allegedly told William “get your finger out my face” during the reconciliation meeting, which reportedly occurred after the honeymoon of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018.
Reports suggest tensions between Meghan Markle and Catherine, Princess of Wales began in the period leading up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
In his memoir Spare, Harry noted that his wife had upset Kate during a phone conversation related to wedding rehearsals. According to the book, when Kate mentioned that Meghan had forgotten something during the planning process, Meghan allegedly told her that she had “baby brain.”
Harry claimed that William later reprimanded Meghan over the comment, describing it as “triggering,” and reportedly pointed a finger at her while saying the remark was rude and fell short of royal protocol.
The Duke of Sussex also wrote that the comment left Kate distraught, arguing that the two women were not close enough to discuss Kate’s hormones.
At the time, the Princess of Wales had recently given birth to Prince Louis and had been dealing with Hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition linked to severe pregnancy-related hormone imbalance.
Harry alleged that the remark sparked a minor feud between the two women and led to Meghan becoming emotional.
Bower claims that a reconciliation meeting was later held after Harry and Meghan returned from their honeymoon in June 2018, but the discussion reportedly escalated.
In describing the encounter, Bower wrote: “If you don’t mind, get your finger out of my face,’ Meghan Markle snapped at William. The teatime reconciliation meeting between the brothers and their wives had spun out of control. Sitting in the Cambridges’ recently redecorated 20-room Kensington Palace apartment, soon after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon in June 2018, Harry watched the confrontation escalate.”
Responding to the claims in the upcoming book, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan criticized Bower’s account, saying his commentary had “crossed the line.”
They said: “Mr Bower’s commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation.
“This is someone who has publicly stated, ‘the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself. He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met. Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.”
