Why I was ashamed having child out of wedlock – Bisola Aiyeola

Bisola Aiyeola Reminisces About

Nigerian reality star and actress Bisola Aiyeola has opened up about the emotional and psychological challenges she faced at the start of her journey as a single mother.

In a candid conversation with Tope Olowoniyan, the actress revealed that discovering she was pregnant outside of marriage deeply affected her, especially given her own upbringing by a single mother.

Bisola Aiyeola admitted feeling overwhelmed by fear and shame at the time, particularly because she had expected to get married after being engaged. The situation, however, did not unfold as planned, leaving her worried that the cycle of single parenthood in her family might continue into the next generation.

“I was scared and ashamed of being pregnant and having a baby out of wedlock. I thought I was going to get married because I was engaged at that time but we never got married.

“So it was so shameful because my mum was a single mum and I am about to become one, I feared my child might also have the same fate,” she recalled.

Bisola Aiyeola also spoke about the financial difficulties her family was facing at the time, which made the experience even more daunting. She noted that the reality of motherhood initially felt overwhelming, even affecting her ability to bond with her newborn daughter in the early stages.

However, she explained that as time passed, she gradually came to terms with her situation and began to fully embrace and appreciate her daughter despite the circumstances surrounding her birth.

Reflecting on her journey, the actress expressed gratitude for her child and the valuable life lessons she has gained through the experience.
