U.S. President Donald Trump has directed a temporary halt to planned military strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure, citing progress in diplomatic discussions between both countries.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced a five-day suspension of attacks targeting power plants and other key facilities in Iran, noting that recent engagements have been encouraging.
He said the United States and Iran had held “very good and productive” talks over the past two days, aimed at reaching a comprehensive resolution to ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
“I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST. BASED ON THE TENOR AND TONE OF THESE IN DEPTH, DETAILED, AND CONSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS, WHICH WILL CONTINUE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, I HAVE INSTRUCTED THE DEPARTMENT OF WAR TO POSTPONE ANY AND ALL MILITARY STRIKES AGAINST IRANIAN POWER PLANTS AND ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A FIVE DAY PERIOD, SUBJECT TO THE SUCCESS OF THE ONGOING MEETINGS AND DISCUSSIONS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”
According to Trump, further meetings are expected to continue throughout the week, with the suspension of military action dependent on the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
