“If ADC Fails, Come Back” — Datti Baba-Ahmed Urges Peter Obi to Return to Labour Party

Datti Baba-Ahmed tells Peter Obi

Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has urged Peter Obi to return to the Labour Party if he fails to secure the African Democratic Congress’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Baba-Ahmed said he still holds Obi in high regard and is willing to support him again if he returns to the party.

“I have much respect for Peter Obi. If he doesn’t get the ADC ticket, he should come back to the Labour Party,” he said.

He added that he would personally work to help Obi secure the party’s ticket and try to resolve any internal disagreements.

“I will work for him and try to get him the ticket in the Labour Party. I will try and mend the ways between him and whoever he may have offended,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed was Obi’s running mate under the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential election.

At the same time, a chieftain of the ADC, Dele Momodu, has stressed that defeating President Bola Tinubu in 2027 will require more than popularity.

Speaking in a separate interview, Momodu said elections are won through strategy, structure, and planning, not just public support.

“What it takes to win an election is not just the crowd, it is not just the noise, it is not just your ideas,” he said.

He warned that Tinubu remains a strong political force and cannot be defeated by simply presenting a popular candidate.

“Tinubu is so formidable that you are not just going to produce a candidate who can take him out. It doesn’t work that way,” he added.

The comments reflect early political positioning as parties and key figures begin to align ahead of the 2027 general elections.
