The political landscape in Oyo State could become more competitive ahead of 2027 following the endorsement of Adebo Ogundoyin by Peoples Democratic Party stakeholders in Ibarapaland.
The endorsement was confirmed in a statement issued by his media aide, Oyetunji Oyekunle, after a zonal meeting held in Igboora.
At the meeting, party stakeholders passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker, praising his leadership, loyalty to the party, and role in maintaining legislative stability in the state.
They also urged him to officially declare his intention to run for governor in 2027, assuring him of strong grassroots support.
If he secures the PDP ticket, Ogundoyin is widely expected to emerge as the preferred candidate of Governor Seyi Makinde, which could significantly shape the dynamics of the race.
Responding to the endorsement, Ogundoyin described it as both an honour and a responsibility, indicating his readiness to answer the call.
He said the support reflects a push for inclusive governance, unity, and sustained development across Oyo State.
The meeting drew key political figures, including House of Representatives member Anthony Adepoju, as well as state commissioners Ademola Ojo and Wasilat Adegoke.
With early alignments already forming, the race for Oyo’s top seat is gradually taking shape, setting the stage for what could become a closely watched contest within the PDP and beyond.
