Oracle has commenced a major round of layoffs as part of a broader effort to reduce costs and intensify its investment in artificial intelligence.
On Tuesday, March 31, employees across various roles—including software engineers, account executives, and program managers—took to LinkedIn to share that they had been affected by the job cuts, with many openly seeking new employment opportunities.
The move positions Oracle among a growing list of tech companies restructuring their workforce to prioritize AI-driven operations.
Reports indicate that affected staff in countries such as the United States, India, Canada, and Mexico began receiving termination emails from “Oracle Leadership” as early as 6 a.m. local time on Tuesday. The scale of the layoffs has sparked concerns that this could mark the largest workforce reduction in the company’s history.
In India alone, approximately 12,000 employees have reportedly lost their jobs, according to local media sources.
The termination emails referenced “broader organisational change,” a phrase widely interpreted as pointing to Oracle’s ongoing shift toward expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure, particularly in building new data centres.
According to a report by Business Insider, the company confirmed the layoffs in an internal communication sent early Tuesday.
“After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last working day,” the email stated.
As of May 2025, Oracle had a global workforce of about 162,000 employees, suggesting that the current round of layoffs could impact roughly 18 percent of its staff.
In addition to informing employees of their termination, the company outlined severance arrangements and immediate restrictions on access to internal systems.
“After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan,” the company said.
“Access to your computer, email, voicemail, and files will be deactivated soon, and you will be unable to log into your computer,” it said in the job termination email.
The layoffs come amid Oracle’s deepening commitment to artificial intelligence. Last year, the company partnered with OpenAI and SoftBank to launch a $500 billion AI infrastructure initiative known as Stargate. The project aims to build large-scale data centres to support the growing demand for computing power required to train and operate AI systems.
Oracle has also strengthened its position in the AI space through collaboration with Nvidia, a leading chipmaker that has become the world’s most valuable tech company, further underlining its aggressive push into the future of artificial intelligence.
