The Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Jos branch, has declared an indefinite strike over delays in the payment of March 2026 salaries and the exclusion of the Earned Academic Allowance.
The industrial action, which took effect on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, was announced by the branch chairperson, Jurbe Joseph Molwus, who directed all members to immediately withdraw from academic and administrative duties.
“Dear comrades, after following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, conduct of examinations, and statutory meetings as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience,” Molwus said.
He noted that the decision aligns with existing resolutions of the union’s National Executive Council and the branch congress.
“This is in line with extant NEC resolution and our standing congress resolution. The action takes immediate effect from Wednesday, April 8, 2026, until we are paid,” he added.
According to Molwus, the delay is linked to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, despite the university’s bursary reportedly completing its part of the salary process.
“From our consultation, the delay is occasioned by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, as the bursary of the university has done its part in the process of salary payment,” he explained.
The union warned that the continued delay is testing its members’ patience and could disrupt industrial harmony if not addressed urgently.
To enforce compliance, ASUU has activated a strike monitoring team, signaling its readiness to sustain the action until all outstanding payments, including allowances, are settled.
