“Honestly, I was disappointed, No Excuse” — Lilian Afegbai Apologises to AMVCA Over Outburst After Snub

Lilian Afegbai Net Worth, Biography and Acting Career

Nollywood actress Lilian Afegbai, popularly known as Lily Afe, has publicly apologised to the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards following her reaction to being left out of the 12th edition nomination list.

In a post shared on her X page on Saturday, the actress admitted that her earlier comments were inappropriate and should never have been made public.

“This apology should have come earlier. That tweet should not have happened. No excuse. It was disrespectful to AMVCA, the nominees, my To Kill a Monkey family, and all of you who have supported me,” she wrote.

Lilian acknowledged that while she felt disappointed over the snub, it did not justify her response.

“Honestly, I was disappointed. But that’s not an excuse for how I responded,” she added.

The actress explained that her reaction stemmed from hurt and entitlement, admitting it was out of character. She appealed to fans for understanding, asking for an opportunity to improve.

Her apology comes days after she sparked online reactions for criticising the awards shortly after the nominations were announced.

She had initially posted “Amvca SMH” before escalating her comments, stating that she did not need a nomination for validation and claiming that no character trended like Idia from To Kill a Monkey.

The Netflix series, directed by Kemi Adetiba, has been one of the most talked-about Nigerian productions in the past year. It earned eight nominations at this year’s AMVCA, placing it among the top contenders.

Despite the controversy, Lilian’s apology appears to signal a step toward mending relations with the awards body and her industry colleagues.
