Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has reacted after comedian Bovi Ugboma recreated her viral awkward encounter with fellow actress Funke Akindele at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
During the ceremony, which Bovi hosted alongside South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha, the comedian performed a humorous skit inspired by the widely discussed moment at the premiere of The Return of Arinze involving Toyin and Funke.
In the comedy segment, Nomzamo Mbatha played Funke Akindele, while Bovi humorously played Toyin Abraham, recreating the now-viral greeting incident that sparked intense online conversation.
The skit immediately drew loud laughter from the audience, including Toyin herself.
A viral clip from the event later showed Toyin chatting and laughing with Bovi after the performance, suggesting she took the joke lightly despite the sensitive history surrounding the incident.
According to Toyin, she already expected the comedian to turn the situation into comedy material eventually.
“I knew he would use it to crack a joke,” she reportedly said during conversations at the event.
The original controversy began after a viral clip from the premiere of The Return of Arinze showed Toyin greeting Funke Akindele, who appeared to offer little or no acknowledgment in return.
The moment quickly sparked widespread reactions online, with many social media users describing the exchange as uncomfortable and embarrassing.
Following the incident, Toyin openly expressed disappointment and publicly stated that she would no longer greet Funke Akindele.
She also revealed at the time that she had unfollowed the actress on social media.
The fallout attracted reactions from several celebrities and fans, especially because both actresses are among Nollywood’s most commercially successful female stars.
Despite the tension that followed the original incident, Toyin’s willingness to laugh at the AMVCA reenactment has now generated fresh reactions online.
Some users praised her for handling the joke maturely, while others felt the moment showed she had moved past the public embarrassment.
Bovi, meanwhile, is known for incorporating trending pop culture moments and celebrity controversies into his stage performances and hosting routines.
The AMVCA skit has since become one of the most talked-about moments from this year’s award ceremony, further extending a Nollywood storyline that social media users have continued discussing for months.
