40-year-old Segun Aina Becomes the Youngest JAMB Registrar In Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Segun Aina as the new registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.

A statement released on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed that Aina will take over from Ishaq Oloyede, whose second term as JAMB registrar ends on July 31.

According to the Presidency, Aina was selected based on his experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector reform.

The statement described the incoming registrar as a systems expert with extensive knowledge of institutional reforms and technology-driven educational systems.

“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public sector institutional reform,” the statement read.

Aina is currently a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.

He earned a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent before obtaining both a master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Interestingly, the Presidency revealed that Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his National Youth Service period, where he reportedly gained firsthand experience in admissions and data management systems.

Over the years, he has also worked with several examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, on ICT infrastructure and examination integrity projects.

The statement further noted that Aina has spent more than 15 years advising federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reforms, and systems optimisation.

He is also a member of professional bodies including the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new registrar would continue building on the reforms and achievements recorded during Oloyede’s tenure at JAMB.
