Afrobeats singer Joeboy has opened up about a difficult decision he made early in his music career, revealing how turning down an immediate cash offer from Mr Eazi eventually transformed his life.
Speaking during an interview, Joeboy recalled that Mr Eazi once gave him two options at a critical moment in his journey.
According to him, he could either collect $5,000 instantly or choose to record a music project fully funded by Mr Eazi, including production and promotion costs.
The singer admitted the decision was extremely difficult because he was struggling financially at the time.
“Mr Eazi asked me if I wanted 5k dollars on the spot or a chance to make a musical record and he will pay for everything,” he said.
“At the time I had less than 50 dollars in my account. It was the toughest decision I’ve made in my life.”
Despite the financial pressure, Joeboy said he eventually chose the opportunity to make music rather than taking the cash immediately.
That decision later became one of the biggest turning points of his career.
Joeboy was discovered by Mr Eazi in 2017 after uploading a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” online.
The cover caught Mr Eazi’s attention and eventually led to his inclusion in the emPawa Africa talent development initiative designed to support emerging African artists.
His breakthrough arrived in 2019 with the release of his hit single Baby, which became one of the biggest Afrobeats songs of the year and pushed him into mainstream success.
Since then, the singer has continued to build a strong presence in Afrobeats with several hit songs, international collaborations, and performances across various countries.
