Actress and content creator Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Soso, has shared her views on kissing scenes in Nollywood, insisting that actors are not supposed to enjoy such moments because they are simply part of the job.
Speaking during an appearance on E Splash on Television Continental, the actress explained that she keeps intimate scenes strictly professional and maintains personal boundaries while filming.
According to Soso, she avoids using her tongue during on-screen kisses and uses only her lips to make the scenes appear believable.
“I don’t know if people kiss with their tongues but I do not kiss with my tongue,” she said.
“My teeth are always close during kissing scenes so it is just the lips. But because it is an act, we have to make it believable.”
The actress added that she is careful about physical boundaries and does not think actors should exchange saliva freely with co-stars.
“Some people kiss with their tongues but I don’t think it is okay to swap saliva with every single person that you shoot with,” she stated.
Soso also reacted to comments previously made by some actors who complained about not experiencing enjoyable kisses while filming romantic scenes.
“Besides, it is a job. So whenever I see a colleague complaining that they didn’t get a good kiss it is weird. You are not supposed to get a good kiss, it is a job,” she remarked.
Her comments follow those of Nollywood actor Saga Adeolu and others who discuss how onscreen kisses are often uncomfortable and not as romantic as audiences may assume.
Soso and Saga have both appeared together in several movies and frequently spark reactions online for their onscreen chemistry.
Before fully moving into Nollywood, Soso gained popularity online with her “pure water seller” comedy skits.
In an earlier interview, she revealed that she initially began creating skits to gain visibility and attract the attention of movie producers and directors.
