Reality TV star and actress Queen Atang has opened up about the now-viral outfit she wore to the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, revealing that the dress left her in pain and nearly injured her waist.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Pidgin, Queen disclosed that the controversial outfit, designed by Tiannah Empire owned by celebrity stylist Toyin Lawani, was extremely heavy because it featured bread-inspired elements.
“I am that girl that wore 500 loaves of bread,” Queen said
“That cloth was heavy. I first cried but I said I have to put myself together to wear this cloth.”
According to her, she was not directly involved in creating the concept and only trusted the designer’s creative direction.
“I wasn’t the one that made the dress, Tiannah Empire did,” she explained.
Queen further revealed that the physical strain from the outfit left visible injuries on her body.
“The weight of that dress almost broke my waist. If you check my back, I have a serious wound because that bread is very very heavy,” she said.
The actress admitted she broke down emotionally after first trying on the outfit.
“I literally cried while wearing that dress. The first few seconds I wore the dress, I removed it and cried well before I said I was ready to wear the cloth.”
Queen also disclosed that she initially had no plans of attending the AMVCA before eventually being convinced by her designer to embrace the bold fashion statement.
Despite arriving after the official red carpet session had ended, she still attended the event and posed for photographs.
According to her, she never expected the outfit to generate global attention online.
The viral moment became even bigger after Guinness World Records reacted to a video of the dress on social media.
“Well, we do have a record for the largest cake dress … hmmm,” the organisation commented online, sparking further conversation around the unusual outfit.
Queen said the entire concept was ultimately aimed at promoting her business creatively, not necessarily chasing controversy or internet attention.
