Actress Annie Macaulay Idibia has reacted to the criticism she received after congratulating celebrity designer, who recently announced the birth of her child with actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha.
The announcement sparked widespread debate on social media due to Baba Ijesha’s previous legal controversy, with many users questioning celebrities who publicly celebrated the couple’s new milestone.
Annie had initially commented on Luminee’s post with a heart emoji to celebrate the arrival of the baby. However, her gesture attracted criticism from some social media users who accused her of supporting the actor despite his past conviction.
Responding to the backlash, Annie clarified that her congratulatory message was addressed to Luminee, whom she knew professionally, and that she was unaware of the circumstances of her personal relationship.
“What’s going on? Please, guys, I do not understand. The lady made me a nice dress a few months ago. I honestly don’t know what’s going on, guys.
“Saw her post on my TL about just having a baby and dropped a heart as congrats! Am I missing something? What did I do wrong? Cos, I’m genuinely lost o. Why are there so many insults, guys?
“I honestly don’t know anything at all about her personal life, beyond the fact that she made the pretty dress I wore to AFRIMA.
“Pls can someone enlighten me? Cos I truly do not know or have any idea what’s up!” she wrote.
Also reacting to the online outrage, actress Regina Chukwu questioned the extent to which Baba Ijesha should continue to face condemnation after the incident.
“Wait, so now he should be condemned for the rest of his life? Make it make sense,” she wrote.
The reactions come amid ongoing conversations online following the announcement of Luminee and Baba Ijesha’s child.
Videos from the baby shower have also surfaced online, showing that the celebration was reportedly organised as a surprise by close friends, including actress Eniola Ajao, and attended by several figures within the entertainment industry.
The development has continued to divide opinions on social media, with some people arguing that the actor’s past should continue to influence public perception of him. In contrast, others believe he should be allowed to move forward with his life after serving his sentence.
The debate highlights the broader public conversation about accountability, forgiveness, and society’s response to individuals following criminal convictions.
