Actress and podcaster Biola Adebayo has publicly apologised after facing heavy criticism over her interview with Olanrewaju Omiyinka.
In a video shared on Instagram, Biola addressed the situation directly, saying she understands why many people were upset and takes responsibility for how things played out.
“Hello everyone… this is an apology video to everyone that feels offended. I’m so sorry,” she said.
She explained that the interview came about after Baba Ijesha reached out to her following his release, expressing interest in speaking publicly.
According to her, she initially expected the interview to be an opportunity for him to apologise and clear the air.
“I thought I was just an interviewer… I thought he would apologise, but he did not. It is not in my place to condemn or judge him because I know the masses will do that,” she said.
Biola also made it clear that the intention was not to defend or justify his actions.
“I would never enable anybody. The interview was not to exonerate him or agree with what he was saying. I do not support him at all,” she added.
Speaking on a more personal level, she revealed that she is a survivor herself, stressing that she would never support abuse in any form.
“I am a mother. I am a Christian. I am also a rape victim… I would never in this life or the next life enable a rapist,” she said.
Following the backlash, Biola removed the interview from her YouTube channel and restricted access to it on Instagram. She also apologised to colleagues, fans, and the general public.
“To everyone that feels hurt or offended, I am so sorry. Please forgive me. I am learning from this, and I will be more careful,” she said.
She extended a direct apology to Iyabo Ojo, acknowledging the sensitivity of the situation.
“I am very sorry… I will never support a rapist nor a pedophile. Thank you to everyone that has been standing by me,” she added.
The apology comes after days of intense reactions online, with many questioning the decision to give Baba Ijesha a platform following his 2022 conviction for sexual assault involving a minor.
