Nigerian rapper and singer YCee has finally explained why he disappeared from the music scene for an extended period, revealing that he intentionally stepped away to focus on personal growth and self-discovery.
The artiste, whose real name is Oludemilade Alejo, made the revelation during a livestream session with popular content creator and streamer Carter Efe.
Speaking about his absence, YCee said the break was not due to industry issues or a lack of interest in music but rather a conscious decision to focus on himself and gain a better understanding of his purpose.
“I have been on the mountain. I went on a journey of self-discovery. But I am back,” he said.
The rapper’s comments have excited fans who have long wondered why one of Nigeria’s most prominent rap voices seemed to step away from the spotlight despite his successful career.
YCee also took the opportunity to shed light on the origin of his popular nickname, Omo Alhaji, a title that many fans have associated with him over the years.
According to the musician, the nickname is connected to his family background, noting that his father is Muslim, even though he does not personally practice the religion.
He further revealed that his personal philosophy is rooted in love and respect for people regardless of religious differences.
Before taking his break, YCee established himself as one of the leading voices in Nigerian hip-hop and Afrobeats with a string of hit songs that dominated the airwaves.
His breakout single Jagaban became a major success, introducing him to mainstream audiences, while tracks such as Juice featuring Maleek Berry and Omo Alhaji further solidified his position in the industry.
During his peak years, YCee was widely regarded as one of the most talented lyricists in Nigerian music, earning praise for his versatility, wordplay, and ability to blend rap with Afrobeats.
Now, with his return officially announced, fans are hopeful that the rapper is preparing a new chapter in his career after spending time away from the public eye.
Although he did not reveal specific details about upcoming projects, his statement suggests that he is ready to reconnect with his audience and continue the musical journey that made him one of Nigeria’s most celebrated rap stars.
