Nollywood actor Olakunle Fawole, popularly known as Abounce and the son of late veteran actress Bukky Ajayi, has spoken candidly about the collapse of his marriage to actress Yvonne Jegede, revealing that although the romantic love is gone, his commitment to protecting her remains because they share a son.
Speaking during an interview on With Chude, the actor reflected on the end of their marriage, explaining that he has chosen peace over resentment.
Asked why the marriage ended, Abounce suggested that they had grown apart.
Rather than assigning blame, he said he prefers to take responsibility instead of creating unnecessary hostility.
“I had a girlfriend once, but it didn’t work.“
When pressed on what led to the breakup, he replied:
“I think we’re just on different planes. I’d rather just be the one to say, ‘Oh, everything was my fault,’ so to speak. I don’t like the enmity of things.“
Abounce said he has never believed in holding grudges against people he once loved.
According to him, he would rather remain cordial with an ex-partner than avoid them if they happened to cross paths.
“I don’t want to see somebody that I used to be with down the street and I turn my face away.“
He added that he would have no problem greeting Yvonne if they met.
When asked directly whether he still loves his ex-wife, the actor gave a straightforward response.
“No.“
However, he stressed that the absence of romantic feelings does not diminish his sense of responsibility towards her.
Abounce explained that because Yvonne is the mother of his son, he would never stand by if she were in danger.
Speaking emotionally, he said:
“Yes, she’s the mother of my son.“
He went on to describe how far he would go to protect her if her safety was ever threatened.
“I’m somewhere, and she’s in trouble, somebody is doing something, I’ll try my best to kill the person.“
When asked whether his reaction would be out of a desire to protect her, he replied:
“Yes.“
Explaining the reason behind his stance, he concluded:
“She’s the mother of my child.“
Abounce’s remarks highlight his belief that the end of a marriage need not lead to lifelong animosity.
While making it clear that he no longer has romantic feelings for Yvonne Jegede, the actor emphasized that respect, peaceful co-parenting, and protecting his child’s mother remain his priorities.
