Bimpe Akintunde Opens Up on Failed Marriage, Says She Cried Throughout Second Pregnancy

Nollywood actress Bimpe Akintunde has spoken candidly about the collapse of her marriage, revealing that she began experiencing serious marital problems just months into her second pregnancy.

Speaking in an interview with BBC Yoruba, the actress recounted the emotional struggles she faced, describing the period as one of the most difficult seasons of her life.

According to Akintunde, trouble in her marriage began during the first trimester of her pregnancy.

She alleged that her husband frequently complained about her pregnancy instead of supporting her.

“I cried when I was carrying my second pregnancy. God gave me my second daughter as a gift because it wasn’t up to three months of being pregnant that I started experiencing issues in my marriage. He was always questioning if I was the first woman to get pregnant.”

The actress said the experience made her heartbroken but believes her daughter became a blessing that gave her the strength to move forward.

Elsewhere in the interview, Akintunde said she does not believe there is anything inherently wrong with becoming a first, second, third or fourth wife, stressing that every woman’s situation is different.

She also advised women not to rush into marriage, urging intending couples to spend enough time getting to know each other’s character before making a lifelong commitment.

She said:

“Don’t see anything bad in being a first, second, third and fourth wife to a man. I want other women to learn a lesson from me.”

She continued:

“If you ever meet someone and he says he wants to marry you quickly, make sure you spend time with him even if it’s just three months to study his character and behaviour.”

Akintunde publicly confirmed the end of her marriage while counting down to her birthday in May.

In an emotional message, she revealed that her marriage took a different turn before the birth of her second child, describing the journey as one full of lessons, tears, strength and self-improvement.

Despite the heartbreak, she said she chose to quietly rebuild herself rather than allow the failed marriage to characterize her.

The actress married Yousuph O. Ganiyu in June 2023 during a Nikkah ceremony. At the time, she disclosed that he already had two wives and described herself as blessed to have found love with him.

In May 2025, she celebrated him in a sincere social media post, praising him for being intentional and sharing details about their love story.

However, in 2025, Ganiyu stimulated speculation about problems in their marriage after sharing a enigmatic message stating that the worst prison is a home without peace and respect, while advising people to be careful about whom they marry.

Akintunde has now confirmed that the marriage has ended, saying the painful experience ultimately taught her valuable life lessons and strengthened her willpower to move forward.
