The Presidency says it does not agree with what Peter Obi’s saying. Peter Obi is the candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
He said the Federal Government is targeting him. The Presidency says this is not true. They think Peter Obi is saying this to get people on his side.
On Wednesday night, someone from President Bola Tinubu’s team talked about this. His name is Bayo Onanuga. He is the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. He said what Peter Obi is saying is not correct. Bayo Onanuga thinks Peter Obi wants people to feel sorry for him.
That is why he is making these claims about the Federal Government targeting him. The Presidency and Peter Obi do not agree on this issue. Peter Obi and the Federal Government have different views.
Onanuga stated that Obi’s recent complaint regarding an incident involving his vehicle at the airport was unrelated to political persecution.
He explained that the situation appeared to result from a violation of airport parking regulations, not from any directive by the Federal Government.
He accused Obi of attempting to involve the government in personal matters and making unfounded accusations.
The Presidency also rejected Obi’s claim that he might not be alive before the January 2027 presidential election, as well as his allegation that people were being discouraged from inviting him to social events.
According to Onanuga, the claims were fabricated and intended to divert public attention from challenges facing Obi’s political platform, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDCP)
Onanuga denied suggestions that the Federal Government was targeting Fidelity Bank due to Obi’s alleged interest in the institution.
He stated that the bank is benefiting from the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms and is not facing any government hostility.
The Presidency affirmed that President Tinubu’s administration remains committed to implementing and consolidating economic and governance reforms for the benefit of Nigerians.
It added that the government is not interested in being distracted by what it described as Peter Obi’s allegations or political activities.
