Offset has his sentencing behind him now and avoided jail time, but the terms of the deal the former Migos rapper accepted include conditions that will follow him for at least the next year.
The 34-year-old, born Kiari Cephus, was ordered to serve 12 months of probation following the criminal case tied to an alleged altercation with a security guard at a Los Angeles marijuana dispensary in March 2025.
Beyond the probation, he must complete community service, attend anger management classes, stay away from the MedMen LAX location where the incident took place, and refrain from threatening anyone or possessing a dangerous weapon. Restitution has also been ordered, though the exact amount has not been determined yet.
The incident that triggered the case began as something fairly routine. Security guard Jim Sanchez asked Offset to produce identification at the dispensary, a standard request that reportedly escalated quickly.
Sanchez alleged that Offset became hostile, struck him in the face, and that others in his party joined in on the attack. He said he was hospitalized with injuries following the confrontation.
Offset told a different story. His position throughout was that Sanchez spat on him first and that what followed was a reaction to being disrespected rather than an unprovoked attack.
The competing accounts made for a messy case, and the eventual resolution through probation and court-mandated programmes rather than a trial suggests both sides found reason to settle short of a full courtroom fight.
The case lands during what has been a turbulent stretch personally for Offset. His divorce from Cardi B, finalized after she filed in 2024 following years of public difficulties in their marriage, played out largely in view of everyone.
He has been working on new music in the period since, though the legal matter had been hanging over that chapter of his career since the dispensary encounter first made headlines.
The sentence keeps him out of jail and gives him a path to put the case behind him. Whether the anger management requirement signals any real shift is, as always with these things, a question only time will answer.
