Antoine Griezmann left Atletico Madrid in 2019 to make a dream move to Barcelona but he has not been able to hit the ground running.

The Frenchman has failed to produce the form that saw Barcelona pay Atletico Madrid for his services, scoring just 35 goals in 105 games.

Though he did make a scoring start in last term’s Copa del Rey Final victory, Barcelona decided it was time to let go of the world cup winner.

In a club release confirming Griezmann’s departure, Barca confirmed that Atletico would be obligated to purchase the France international.

“FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for the loan of Antoine Griezmann for a season with the option of a further season,” the statement said.

“FC Barcelona would like to thank Antoine Griezmann for his commitment and dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”

Ronald Koeman will now rely on the brilliance of Memphis Depay to take Barcelona back to the summit of football in Spain and Europe.
