Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) Presidential candidate, has stated that he is in talks with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) Presidential candidate, over a possible merger.
During an interview with BBC Hausa, Kwankwaso stated that the goal is to create a powerful force to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) (PDP).
The former governor of Kano State stated that their union was particularly essential because neither the APC nor the PDP had selected an Igbo running mate for their presidential candidates.
IT IS TRUE WE ARE IN TALKS WITH PETER OBI AND A COMMITTEE IS WORKING TO LOOK INTO HOW TO FORM A MERGER BETWEEN US. FRIENDS AND FAMILY ARE BEING UP AND DOING TALKING ABOUT THE MERGER ARRANGEMENT. THE MERGER IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE AS YOU CAN SEE BOTH THE RULING ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (APC) AND THE OPPOSITION PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) DID NOT PICK THEIR RUNNING MATES FROM THE SOUTH-EAST” KWANKWASO TOLD BBC HAUSA.
On Friday, Doyin Okupe, the former aide to ex-Presidents’ Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, announced that he was the running mate to Peter Obi.
