Southampton produced an incredible display to beat Manchester City 2-0 and seal a place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Pep Guardiola’s side had a lot of the ball but the Saints defended excellently and limited City to few chances.
The goals came from Sekou Mara after Lyanco burst down the right and found the forward and he smashed the ball in and then Moussa Djenepo as he bent a shot over Stefan Ortega.
Guardiola brought Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne off the bench but the visitors never managed to reach top gear.
This was Guardiola’s first loss in a domestic cup quarter-final and he must pick his side up ahead of the Manchester derby.
James Ward-Prowse to Sky Sports: “It was a special night These games are special to play in.
“We knew this was a distraction and a great chance to show what we’re about – no fear.
“I think we showed our true colours tonight.”
That was the first game since 2018 that Man City haven’t had a shot on target!
