Simisola Gold, a popular Nollywood actress and slay queen, has been arrested by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, for selling new naira notes.
Simisola Gold, real name Omoseyin Oluwadarasimi Esther, with the Twitter handle @SimisolaofLala, was arrested for selling new naira notes on social media, according to reports.
This was stated in a statement signed by the ICPC’s spokesperson, Azuka Ogugua, on Wednesday night, February 2nd, 2023, in Abuja. According to the statement, the arrest was made as a result of intelligence that led ICPC agents to seek out and apprehend the suspect.
“Oluwadarasimi Emma, a social media’serial entrepreneur’ who deals in skincare, fuel sales, facilitating foreign travels through visa acquisitions, and other businesses, seized the opportunity of the scarcity of the new naira notes to openly market the new notes,” according to the statement.
It is suspected that she is working with key figures in the financial services sector to divert newly issued notes away from banking halls and payment channels and into a ‘black market.‘
She is currently in ICPC detention and is helping the Commission with its findings on the criminal trading of the naira and the attendant scarcity and negative economic outcomes being caused by the action. The action is in furtherance of the collaboration between CBN, ICPC and EFCC in implementing the new cashless policy and naira redesign.”
