Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the recently concluded 2023 presidential polls, reacted to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Alex Otti of the Labour Party as the governor-elect of Abia State on Wednesday following the resumption of results collation.

Recall that on Monday, the electoral umpire suspended the collation of results in Abia, and at the time collation was stopped, Otti was reportedly leading in the Abia March 18 governorship polls garnering over 80,000 votes.

After the collation of the outstanding results from Obingwa LGA, Otti secured a total of 175,467 to beat his closest rival Okey Ahiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who gathered 88,529 votes.

The victory of Alex Otti in Abia State is the first for the Labour Party in the last Saturday’s governorship polls across the federation.

While congratulating Alex Otti on his victory through his Twitter handle, Mr. Peter Obi noted that he is gladened that the wish will and wish of the people of Abia State were respected. He further prayed for the protection and guidance of God for the newly elected governor of Abia State.

Mr. Obi wrote: “A while ago, I spoke with my brother, Dr. Alex Otti @alexottiofr, the Governor-elect of Abia State, and heartily congratulated him on his election. I am gratified that the will and wish freely expressed by the Abia electorates have been respected.

I pray for God’s guidance and protection for the incoming Governor of God’s Own State. -PO”c0bad791ac89fd6c307faa0d54e3e19d
