Asisat Oshoala, a Super Falcons forward and prominent football player from Nigeria, has been shortlisted for the prestigious 2023 Ballon d’Or Award.
The award’s sponsor, France Football, announced it on its official Twitter account on July 7.
Oshoala is also scheduled to be nominated for the Socrates Award, which honours exemplary acts of solidarity performed by football winners.
The award, which was established last year and is named after the illustrious Brazilian footballer Socrates, has five finalists. She is one of them.
The nomination honours Oshoala for her outstanding contributions to her community through founding the Oshoala Academy.
The academy wants to give its students both top-notch football instruction and life skills instruction. Through athletics, it also gives young women more influence, transforming them into role models in the community.
The announcement further stated that the nominees in other categories, including men’s, women’s, Yachine Trophy, and Kopa Trophy, will be revealed on September 6.
