Ifedayo Olarinde, commonly known as Daddy Freeze, a popular Nigerian broadcaster and social commentator, stated in a video on his Facebook page that individuals earning less than 100,000 naira in the current economy are impoverished and should not be required to pay tithes. He cited Deuteronomy 14:28-29 and 14:22-23, saying that the verses advocate eating your tithe.

“If you are earning less than N100k a month in this economy, you are poor and should be receiving; not giving tithes. Check Deuteronomy 14:28-29, Deuteronomy 14:22-23 says eat your tithe”, Daddy Freeze wrote on Facebook.

The outspoken media figure, known for his criticism of various religious practises, urges religious leaders to reevaluate their approach to tithing, arguing that the emphasis should be on fostering acts of generosity and assisting those in need within their communities.

While some took to the comment section to praise Daddy Freeze for speaking up on behalf of the less privileged, others have labeled his remarks as divisive and undermining of religious principles. Many individuals with differing income levels have taken to social media to share their perspectives, fueling a vibrant debate.

As the conversation continues to unfold, religious leaders, economists, and policymakers are expected to weigh in on the matter, addressing the broader implications of tithing and its potential impact on the financially vulnerable in today’s challenging economy.
