Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a Senior Lawyer and Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission has said that the Supreme Court has yet to explain how Governor Hope Uzodinma won in court despite finishing fourth in the Imo State election.
In an interview with Channels TV news, he stated that the judiciary has a glaring problem that must be addressed. He indicated unequivocally that the majority of the judgements issued in the election petition and party cases had harmed judicial legitimacy.
He said, ”This is not mudslinging with all due respect. The Judicial decision-making is not rocket science. Nobody can defend the judgment in the Lawan’s case, the Supreme Court Judges cannot defend making Hope Uzodinma Governor of Imo State.
Making the Fourth person the number one in an election. So we have got to admit that there is a problem in the Judicial system. There is a problem with Judicial credibility. And this credibility arises almost always in party political cases and election petitions.”
