Tobi Amusan loses 100m World Athletics championship final

ā€˜I’m Thrilled To Put This Behind Me,’ Amusan Reacts To Doping Clearance

Tobi Amusan, the reigning World Champion in the women’s 100m Hurdles, was unable to defend her title as she finished 6th in the final at the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Budapest on Thursday.

In a remarkable performance, Jamaican athlete Danielle Williams won the title with a season-best time of 12.43s. Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, the Olympic champion, came second with a time of 12.44s, followed closely by USA’s Kendra Harrison in third place with a time of 12.46s. Amusan, the World champion, finished in 6th place with a time of 12.62s, marking her third consecutive final appearance.

At the 2022 World Championship in Eugene, USA, Amusan had achieved an impressive victory, crossing the finish line in first place with a time of 12.40s, setting a new African record. She then went on to break the world record in the event with a time of 12.12s, surpassing the previous record of 12.20s set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.

Unfortunately, Amusan missed out on the opportunity to join the ranks of only three other women who have won multiple gold medals in the women’s 100m Hurdles at the World Championships. These athletes include the USA’s Gail Devers and Michelle Perry, as well as Australian Sally Pearson.

It was a third consecutive final for the Nigerian athlete who competed against Olympic champion, Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji, Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, the duo of Kendra Harrison and Nia Ali from the United States of America, and the Jamaican duo of Ackera Nugent and Danielle Williams at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hung.
