Hannatu Musawa, a ministerial contender from Katsina State, was overcome with emotion during her screening appearance before the Senate.
Ms. Musawa, a lawyer who is currently the presidential adviser on culture and entertainment economy, was one of 28 Nigerians named as ministers by President Bola Tinubu. On Tuesday, she was the eighth nominee to go through the screening process.
Ms. Musawa began by narrating her family background and upbringing when requested by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to introduce herself and provide a synopsis of her credentials.
However, as she continued to tell her experience, she found herself crying. Her emotions erupted, and she found herself sobbing in front of the Senate.
She described herself as coming from a poor family that struggled to make ends meet. Her father, politician Musa Musawa, fought tirelessly to ensure she obtained a Western education. Despite financial difficulties, her father sold Kolanut to fund her schooling before his death.
