Hannatu Musawa, Nigeria’s Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, has publicly demanded an apology from Labour Party’s 2023 vice presidential candidate, Dr. Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, over remarks he made about Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Musawa, speaking during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday night, described Baba-Ahmed’s comments as “dangerous insinuations based on lies”, urging him to apologize to the Vice President.
The Controversial Comment
Last week on Arise News, Datti Baba-Ahmed was asked to address speculations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be considering a new vice president ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his response, Datti claimed that Tinubu had shown “rare patience” by keeping Shettima in office for this long. He added that “anyone who knows what Shettima did” would not allow him to remain in such a powerful position, although he declined to provide specific details.
Musawa’s Response
Clearly displeased, Minister Musawa pushed back, accusing Datti of attempting to tarnish Shettima’s reputation without evidence.
“What was he trying to say? I didn’t understand what he was trying to say,” Musawa stated.
“He was making insinuations, very dangerous insinuations based on lies, and I think it’s a real shame. I think Datti needs to apologize to the Vice President.”
Political Implications
The heated exchange highlights growing political tension between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) as both parties position themselves for 2027.
While Baba-Ahmed has not responded to Musawa’s demand as of this writing, the public nature of the dispute has further stirred political discourse online and offline.
