Early Life

Jiya Shankar was (born on April 17th, 1995), in Mumbai, Maharashtra. When she was 13 years old, her parents divorced, and since then, she was raised by her single mother, Surekha Gavli. 

Jiya had a passion for acting from childhood and began her modeling career at an early age. By the age of 16, she was already giving auditions for television roles.

Career

Jiya began her career by appearing in cameo roles in several TV shows. However, in 2013, Jiya made her acting debut in the Telugu movie Entha Andanga Unnave. She appeared as herself alongside Ajay Manthena.

Later, in 2015, she was cast as Sonam in season four of the crime series Gumrah: End of Innocence. That same year, Jiya showcased her acting skills in the series Love by Chance, Twist Wala Love, Pyaar Marriage Shhhh, and a show MTV Big F.

In 2016, the star had the lead role as Shreya Dixit Rathore in Queens Hain Hum. Next year, she played Nancy in Zing’s TV series Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya. Jiya also appeared in films outside of TV shows, including her Tamil debut in Kanavu Variyam in 2017.

Jiya Shankar had a big break when she landed the main role as Dr. Iravati Desai Pandey in the series Meri Hanikarak Biwi. She starred in the show from 2017 to 2019 and became a household name in the Indian TV industry.

In 2018, she portrayed Vaishnavi in the Telugu film Hyderabad Love Story. After that, she began working in hit serials such as Laal Ishq (2020) and Pishachini. Jiya was cast as Susheela “Sattu” Kaatelal Ruhail Solanki in Sony SAB’s series Kaatelal & Sons from 2020 to 2021.

Aside from working in Tamil and Telugu films, Jiya also made a name for herself in Marathi films. In 2020, she became Nisha Katkar in the Marathi film Ved, starring Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh.

Nevertheless, Jiya co-starred as Pakhi in the Hindi comedy web series Virgin Bhasskar 2 in 2020. Shankar found success in June 2023 after being a contestant on Salman Khan‘s hosted game show Bigg Boss OTT 2.
