Cross River governor promised to compensate me for my stolen jewelry – Mayorkun

The Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Otu, has promised to reimburse singer Mayorkun for the valuables he lost in Calabar.

Mayorkun, who was invited to perform at the 2023 Calabar Carnival, reported losing jewelry worth millions of naira.

In a post on his social media page, the singer expressed his frustration and stated that he would not perform in Calabar again.


Singer Iyanya later announced the recovery of one of Mayorkun’s stolen diamond chains.

Subsequently, Mayorkun revealed in a follow-up post that he recently met with Governor Otu, who assured him of compensation for his lost valuables in Calabar.

He wrote; “Just met with the Governor of Cross River State, H.E Prince Bassey Otu. He assured me that Calabar people remain very hospitable and he has also stressed that I will be compensated for my valuables lost.

“Thank you sir. Still searching for my pendant. It’s so special to me for many reasons,” he added.
