Chude Nnamdi, a Nigerian political activist, criticizes Nigeria’s economic woes while arguing that earning N200,000 is equivalent to being unemployed.
This comes after Air Peace airline boss Allen Onyema stated that Nigerians earning N200K had better lives than those making £2000 in the UK.
According to Chude in a series of posts via X, the poverty level in Nigeria worsened in 2024 as inflation climbed higher than it was in the last quarter of 2023.
Ridiculing Allen’s statement, Chude insisted that an N200K salary is barely sufficient to survive, let alone provide enough comfort, as the Air Peace boss suggested.
In his words;
“Anybody earning 200k in the present Nigeria is as good as unemployed. This is to put things into perspective, why do you think they say 70% of people in Nigeria are living in poverty?
“People are already depressed and you have someone saying a 200k salary in Nigeria is equavalent to $2000 salary in U.S.”
He added, “For a man with a sizeable family, 50k can hardly buy you foodstuff that can carry the family for 2 weeks in the present Nigeria.
To fill 12Kg coking Gas is nothing less than 18k. What about light bill & co?”
Anybody earning 200k in the present Nigeria is as good as unemployed.
