The Kaduna State House of Assembly initiated an investigation on Tuesday into the contentious foreign and domestic loans and grants obtained by the previous administration of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
A committee was formed during the plenary session led by Speaker Yusuf Liman Dahiru to conduct the probe.
The committee’s objective is to gather information on financial transactions, loans, grants, and project implementations between 2015 and 2023.
The panel has been instructed to summon El-Rufai and other prominent figures, such as former Speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, former Finance Commissioners, and former Budget and Planning Commissioners.
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State expressed concerns over the excessive debt inherited from the previous administration, which he claimed was hindering the current government’s capabilities.
