Actress Joke Silva predicts that her junior colleague Kehinde Bankole will win the Best Actress award for her performance in the Bolanle Austen-Peters-directed film Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.
Joke Silva mentioned this in a recent Instagram post, congratulating Kehinde on winning the best actress in a lead role category at the 2024 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
When Kehinde shared a picture of herself with her award, Joke wrote: “She’s on a role..love you babes…you will get for Funmilayo too …you wait.”
The film recounts the life of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, mother of the late Fela Kuti, and includes appearances from her grandchildren, Femi Kuti, Yeni Kuti, and others.
Kehinde plays the younger Funmilayo, while Joke Silva plays the older version.
After receiving three nominations, including Best Costume and Best Movie, the movie won the Best Screenwriting award at the just-concluded Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.
Funmilayo was an educator and women’s rights activist.
She died on April 13 1978 at age 77.
