Naira abuse: Court adjourns case against Cubana Chief Priest

Naira abuse: Court grants Cubana Chief Priest N10m bail

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, adjourned further until June 25 for the mention of a case involving Pascal Okechukwu (Cubana Chief Priest), accused of Naira abuse.

Okechukwu was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on April 17, facing a three-count charge of allegedly spraying and tampering with Naira notes during a social event at Eko Hotel in Lagos.

Upon pleading not guilty to the charges, Cubana Chief Priest was granted bail in the amount of N10 million.

During the last adjourned date on May 2, Mr. Chikaosolu Ojukwu (SAN), the defense counsel, informed the court about the exploration of settlement and requested the matter to be resolved in accordance with Section 14(2) of the EFCC Act.

Consequently, the defense counsel sought withdrawal of the preliminary objection, which was granted by the court without any opposition from the prosecution.

The court then adjourned the case until June 5 for a progress report on the settlement.

However, it was reported on Wednesday that the defense team had submitted a letter requesting an adjournment of the case, which is now scheduled for June 25.

According to the charge, Cubana Chief Priest allegedly tampered with N500 denomination funds while dancing at the social event in Eko Hotel, violating section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
