Former President of the United States, Donald Trump, has stated that he was hit by a bullet in his upper right ear during a shooting at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The incident resulted in one person dead and another seriously injured.
He shared this information in a statement on Sunday, mentioning that the injury caused significant bleeding.
“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” he said.
He went on to express his condolences to the families of the victims stating, “Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”
The Secret Service swiftly evacuated Trump from the stage into an SUV following the shooting, confirming that the former President was safe and designating the area as an active crime scene.
Trump also mentioned in his statement that the shooter is deceased, but no further details are known at this time.
The shooting occurred as Trump’s popularity among Americans grows in anticipation of the November 5, 2024, presidential election.
President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama have both condemned the violence and wished Trump a quick recovery.
