The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, declared during his visit to Edo State that the police profession is the best in the world.
According to him: “Police job is a job you do and people will pray for you. It is also a job you do and people will give you the opposite of prayer. So, it is you, the policemen, who will decide which one you want.”
He urged the men and officers of the Edo State Police Command to maintain transparency and honesty in their interactions with the public.
Egbetokun emphasized the importance of serving the people to the best of their abilities and demonstrating a high level of integrity and public trust.
Highlighting the recent recognition of the Nigeria Police as the most improved agency in anti-corruption in the country, Egbetokun credited this achievement to the officers’ adherence to the new policing vision of professionalism, service orientation, rule of law compliance, and community engagement.
He called on the officers in Edo State to prioritize excellent service delivery and committed themselves to upholding the highest standards in their duties.
Egbetokun assured them of ongoing support and resources to enhance their performance.
He said:
“The Federal Government is committed to improve police welfare and we are also doing our best to ensure that policemen have improved welfare.
“Recently, we launched the police housing scheme. The intention of having a police housing scheme is to provide affordable housing to all police officers across the ranks.
“With what we have in place and what we are putting together, houses would be affordable for all police officers, such that you cannot serve the police for 35 years, retire and not have a home.
“That is what we are working on and we are getting support from the Federal Government. This is to show you that the government and the police administration are committed to improving welfare for all police officers.”
