At least 19 individuals have tragically lost their lives in the Kawuri community of Borno State as a result of an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, detonating at a local gathering spot.
Reports indicate that the explosion, suspected to be orchestrated by Boko Haram insurgents, also caused injuries to an unknown number of residents.
This incident is part of a series of attacks in the North-East region, with recent casualties including seven Nigerian soldiers.
According to a government official, the explosion occurred around 8:05 pm at a popular tea joint where villagers were socializing, resulting in numerous injuries among the crowd.
“Nobody can say exactly how it happened, but we suspected that the bomb was planted, not a suicide attack.
“We saw corpses of 19 people with an unspecified number of civilians injured. The injured were evacuated to an undisclosed hospital in Maiduguri for treatment,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
