BREAKING: NFF appoints German, Labbadia Super Eagles new head coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finalized a deal with German coach, Bruno Labbadia to manage the national team, the Super Eagles.

The announcement was made by NFF Secretary General, Mohammed Sanusi on Tuesday morning. Labbadi,a was born in Darmstadt, Germany on February 8, 1966 and has two caps for the German national team.

“The NFF Executive Committee has approved the recommendation of its Technical and Development Sub-Committee to appoint Mr. Bruno Labbadia as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles. The appointment is with immediate effect,” Sanusi said.

Labbadia has previously coached clubs such as Hertha Berlin, VfB Stuttgart, VfL Wolfsburg, Hamburger SV, Bayer Leverkusen, and holds a UEFA Pro License.

He becomes the sixth German to lead the Super Eagles, following in the footsteps of Karl-Heinz Marotzke, Gottlieb Göller, Manfred Höner, Berti Vogts, and Gernot Rohr.

Labbadia’s first task is to prepare the team for two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Benin Republic (Saturday, September 7 in Uyo) and Rwanda (Tuesday, September 10 in Kigali), with four more matches to follow.
