The former governor of Oyo State, Rashidi Ladoja, has formally obtained the prestigious Ibadan beaded crown following a prolonged period of opposition lasting seven years.
During a ceremony hosted at the residence of Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Ladoja was bestowed with the crown on Monday by Bayo Lawal, the acting governor of the state.
Ladoja, holding the position of Otun Olubadan, is among the 11 prominent chiefs in the line of succession to Olakunlehin.
Approximately seven years after declining the beaded crown, which bestows upon him the title “his royal majesty,” he has now been officially crowned as Oba.
Following the coronation event, he expressed his acceptance of the role of king within the Olubadan lineage without any reservations.
He underscored that Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, retains the sole status of paramount king in the historic city, with all other Obas being regarded as subjects and counselors.
