Singer CKay has called out some of his fellow artists for mocking him when he first introduced his own style of Afrobeats, only to see them later copy his innovation.

The ‘Love Nwantiti’ singer believes he sparked many of the trends now popular in the Afrobeats genre and remembers being the first to promote songs on TikTok, despite facing ridicule at the time.

He now observes that many of those who mocked him have since followed in his footsteps.

On his X handle, the singer wrote: “history can’t be rewritten just because some people got paid to rewrite it…i’ll always be here to remind you.

CKay is the first. I pioneered many vibes Afrobeats artistes thrive off today…iykyk. Y’all laughed when I came up with emo-afrobeat and was on TikTok all day but many are now doing the same thing, calling it ridiculous names (& making $$). you’re welcome sha.”
